Advent
Hangings On November 28, 2004, new Advent Hangings, given by Ethel McNaughton in memory of her husband Alexander, and daughter Alexandra were dedicated. Ethel is a former Altar Guild President, and her daughter Alexandra also was a member of Altar Guild. Ethel had worked with needlewomen from St. James’ and other churches in the diocese on the white hangings dedicated in 1979 . She had two concerns – that good material be used and that the new Advent hangings tell a story that children could understand. A rich blue Dupioni silk was chosen for the background; the embroidery threads were silk and the gold appliqués were kid leather. The hangings were made by Studio Inspirations, a local Ottawa group of textile artists. Pat Caffery was the project co-ordinator. Others who also worked on this were Susan Bickel, Penni Caffery, Kerri Griffin, Cindy Jackson, Heather Moore, Mary Anne Toonders, and Marilyn White. Above, Ethel discusses the work with Pat Caffery.
