Hangings
November 28, 2004
On November 28, 2004, new Advent Hangings, given by Ethel McNaughton in memory of her husband Alexander, and daughter Alexandra were dedicated. Ethel is a former Altar Guild President, and her daughter Alexandra also was a member of Altar Guild. Ethel had worked with needlewomen from St. James’ and other churches in the diocese on the white hangings dedicated in 1979 . She had two concerns – that good material be used and that the new Advent hangings tell a story that children could understand. A rich blue Dupioni silk was chosen for the background; the embroidery threads were silk and the gold appliqués were kid leather.
The hangings were made by Studio Inspirations, a local Ottawa group of textile artists. Pat Caffery was the project co-ordinator. Others who also worked on this were Susan Bickel, Penni Caffery, Kerri Griffin, Cindy Jackson, Heather Moore, Mary Anne Toonders, and Marilyn White.
