Colonel By Day
In Ottawa, the August long weekend is designated as Colonel By Day, in honour of Lt. Colonel John By of the British Army Royal Engineers. Between 1826 and 1832, it was he who oversaw the building of the 202 km Rideau Canal linking Kingston to Ottawa. To mark the day, Barry and Marg Moloney invited choir members to their home for a barbeque. The weather cooperated, and it was a delightful event.
