On March 8 parishioners turned out in great numbers to partake in pancakes and the trimmings. Shrove Tuesday is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, it's the day to get in the last of the feasting before the austerity of the Lenten season; hence, put lots of syrup on those pancakes!
