The Diocese of Ottawa held its annual Synod this year at the NavCan Centre in Cornwall. Representatives of every parish considered a variety of diocesan business, including the vote (in the form of a recommendation to the bishop, who will make the final decision) on the blessing of same-sex (civil) marriages. This item passed after the exchange of very strongly held views presented, however, within an atmosphere of Christian civility and understanding. Another item of crucial importance to the diocese was the strategic plan; this was widely praised and passed unanimously.
